About this destinationAjinkyatara Fort stands majestically atop one of the seven hills surrounding Satara city in Maharashtra. It is historically significant as one of the ‘Satara Killa’ (seven forts) and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding Sahyadri ranges.
Built during the Shilahara dynasty and later fortified by the Marathas, Ajinkyatara played a vital role in the power struggles of the Deccan. It was an important outpost during the reign of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj and a symbol of Maratha pride.
