About this destination

Sinhagad Fort, perched atop the Bhuleshwar range of the Sahyadri Mountains near Pune, is one of Maharashtra’s most famous hill forts. Its name translates to 'Fort of the Lion,' commemorating the bravery of Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare.

The fort has witnessed many historical battles, the most notable being the 1670 Battle of Sinhagad, where Tanaji sacrificed his life to recapture the fort from the Mughals under the command of Shivaji Maharaj.
