About this destination

Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Pune district of Maharashtra, is a part of the Western Ghats and is known for its rich biodiversity, dense forests, and sacred environment surrounding the Bhimashankar Temple — one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

Spread across 131 square kilometers, the sanctuary protects the habitat of the Indian Giant Squirrel, locally known as 'Shekru', the state animal of Maharashtra.
