Overview

About this destination

The Varadvinayak Temple at Mahad, located in the Khalapur taluka of Raigad district, is one of the eight sacred Ashtavinayak shrines of Lord Ganesha. The temple name 'Varadvinayak' means 'Bestower of Blessings' or 'Granter of Boons'.

It is believed that Lord Ganesha here fulfills the wishes of devotees who offer sincere prayers. The temple houses a self-manifested (Swayambhu) idol discovered in an adjoining lake over 300 years ago.

The present stone structure, built by Subhedar Ramji Mahadev Biwalkar in 1725 AD, exudes Peshwa-era architecture with a deep spiritual aura and serene surroundings.

Mahad’s peaceful setting, surrounded by green hills and a sacred pond, offers a divine and tranquil atmosphere for pilgrims visiting throughout the year.
