About this destination

Torna Fort, also known as Prachandgad, is located in Pune district and holds a special place in Maratha history as the first fort captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the young age of 16 in 1646.

Standing at an altitude of 1,403 meters (4,635 ft) above sea level, Torna is the highest fort in Pune district. Its massive size and strategic position earned it the name 'Prachandgad' meaning 'massive fort'.

The fort offers mesmerizing views of the Sahyadri range and nearby forts like Rajgad and Purandar, making it a favorite destination for trekkers and history enthusiasts.
